Drea Does Dallas, Part 2

In my last post, I promised to tell you all about my very first experience at an Airbnb. So let me just start by saying I love Dallas. This was my second trip and I’ll be back for sure. Soooooooo about the Airbnb, the neighborhood where the house was located was a little sketchy. I’m not a stranger to sketchy, I grew in Brooklyn in the 80’s, sketchy was abundant, however as an adult I’m not a fan of paying for sketchy.

We pulled up to the house, it was cute albeit in a questionable neighborhood. We opened the doors, the interior was cute as well but the house was freezing. I get you want to save some coins on the heating bill, ok. But as we move through the house and reach the back door you could smell the scent of cat spray; it’s a very distinct order. Not the owners fault a bunch of strays are squatting in his back yard. But the flimsy door my nine year old could kick open did lead to me question my safety; there were even talks of finding another spot for the weekend. We talked each other out of that idea but at 3 am we regretted that decision.

In sketchy neighborhoods you usually end up with some pretty interesting neighbors. And our next door neighbors definitely were interesting. We could hear, smell (they smoked the strongest weed on the planet) and almost feel them through the walls. They partied from 2 am to about 5 am that Friday night. We had to be up and out at 7 am for the shoot and photo walk. Needless to say I applied generous amounts of concealer the next day.

Saturday night was a little less eventful.

I think our neighbors went out to party or I was too tired to notice, either way I thanked God! The cat smell dissipated due to our constant burning of the host delicious smelling candle and generous sprays of air-freshener. It was all worth it as we ended up with some amazing pictures on the photo walk and in the studio; as you can seen. All in all we did what we came to do, find beauty in another part of the country and document it; mission accomplished! I’ll definitely come back to Dallas, the food was great, the people were friendly, definitely a city to visit. Still a bit traumatized with the Airbnb but I will give it another try.
